Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal journey will continue under new head coach Jorge Jesus, with the legendary forward included in Jesus’ first squad ahead of the September UEFA Nations League fixtures. The 41-year-old captain remains part of Portugal’s plans as the European champions begin a new cycle following the 2026 World Cup.
Jesus, who previously coached Ronaldo at Al-Nassr, had already made his position clear after taking charge of Portugal. The new manager said Ronaldo remains central to his plans, provided he continues playing and is physically available. That promise has now been backed up by Ronaldo’s inclusion in the official squad.
Ronaldo enters the new international campaign with a remarkable record for Portugal. He has scored 146 goals in 233 appearances, making him the world’s all-time leading scorer in men’s international football as well as the record appearance holder.
His 2026 campaign has also added to an already historic international résumé. Ronaldo has scored three goals for Portugal in 2026, while his career includes victories at UEFA EURO 2016 and two UEFA Nations League titles. He also became the first player to score at six different FIFA World Cups.
Portugal’s Nations League campaign begins on September 24 against Wales, followed by Norway on September 27. The team will then face Denmark and Norway in October before returning to action against Denmark and Wales in November.
With Ronaldo now officially selected, Portugal supporters can expect to see their captain involved during the September international window and potentially again in November. For a player who has already rewritten the record books, another chapter of his remarkable international career is set to continue under Jorge Jesus.
